A Mantel for Christmas

I am so excited to be linking up with Pamela at From My Front Porch to Yours for her 3rd Annual Christmas Mantel Party.

I am so happy to have a home with a mantel and I love to decorate it with the seasons. Every Christmas I do something a little different and this year I wanted a more rustic, woodland, vintage-y mantel even though the room is a Victorian Parlor!

The color on the walls is Cranberry Cocktail and mixes well with muted reds and of course white. The idea for a woodland mantel came about when I saw the all white pine cone wreath on one of the many blogs I visit each week. I had to make it this year for my woodland mantel. I just happened to have the rusty metal snowflake garland to put around it.

I had a lot of the items from years past and then found some new treasures to make it all come together. My snowflake ribbon was a great find at a great country store in a nearby town. The JOY banner was lovingly handmade by an Etsy seller, as was the wonderful muslin tree on the end. The Yule Log was bought at a local church bazaar, made by their youth group.

My metal reindeer, iridescent garland and glass candle holder go on the mantel every year no matter the theme. The pine cone candleholders add just the right touch. The "snow" is a piece of quilt batting cut to size and scalloped on the outer edge.

The parlor is not a large room but it is right in the middle of a long, narrow house so we walk through it to get to every other room. The mantel is the focal point of the room and Christmas is my favorite time to decorate it.

Hmmm......what should my theme be next year?

3rd Annual Christmas Mantel Party

  1. Annemarie,
I love your mantel. So happy you hooked up over at Pamela's. It is fun to join in her parties. Your mantel is beautiful. Great job.

  2. What a beautiful mantel! I love all the decorations you have on there. I don't have a mantel and I keep telling my hubby he needs to build a small one behind my wood stove, but until that happens I always decorate my entertainment center for the seasons. I love all the sparkling lights and all the things that bring me joy this Christmas Season. And my Nativity scene is smack dab in the middle!! I love this time of year.

I hope you have a Very Merry Christmas!

  3. Your house looks so cheerful and festive! I love the snowy look with the batting. I might try that one year but I love my lighted garland thing so much....I just pull it out of the attic and lay it across the mantel and VOILA! Done. :) Yours looks so lovely ...perfect for this year....are you getting a lot of snow so far this year??? We had snow three times last week.

  4. Your home looks so festive! Love that snowy look....I would try to do something different but I love my lighted garland so much that I haven't done anything else really...the garland is so easy, I just lay it down and I'm done!

  5. Your mantel is so pretty! I love your choice of red and white! Your banner is wonderful! Your home looks so festive! I love the view of your Christmas tree! Merry Christmas!

  6. What a beautiful home and mantel you have. White is so classic.

  7. Love it! So whimsical! The entire mantel is beautiful :)

  8. Oh how pretty! I love your mantel, dear Ann Marie :) Merry Christmas to you!

  9. Very festive and lovely! I love having a mantle too! Visiting from the ECS party. Happy Holidays!

  10. Happy New Year, AnnMarie!

Your Christmas mantel, as well as the rest of your home, look so very festive. I love the cranberry red on your walls, and it's perfect for the holiday season. Red and white are a favorite combination of mine, and so your decorating really struck a chord with me.

    All the best in 2014.

  11. Wow, I just love that color of your walls! It really makes that white fireplace and your beautiful trim work pop!
